The dramatic, poignant and often-exasperating story of the early days of the HIV-AIDS crisis in 1980s New York City is the focus of this searing HBO Films drama. Directed by Emmy(R)-winner Ryan Murphy (TV's 'Glee'), this adaptation of Larry Kramer's Tony(R)-winning play provides an unflinching look at the nation's sexual politics as gay activists and their allies in the medical community fight to expose the truth about the burgeoning epidemic to a city and nation in denial. The stellar ensemble cast includes Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons, Alfred Molina, Julia Roberts, Joe Mantello, Jonathan Groff, Denis O'Hare, BD Wong, Stephen Spinella, Corey Stoll and Finn Wittrock. ...

This is an excellent film and needs to be seen many times

This is an excellent film and needs to be seen many times. This is a story that needs to be heard and how HIV has affected so many lives of vibrant young men. You will not be disappointed when you watch this film but be prepared to have it pull at your heart and to experience many emotions.

Incredibly Passionate and Intimate

This amazing movie should have been made 20 years ago. It's long overdue, but worth the wait. The subject is not fun -- the beginnings of the AIDS crisis in NYC -- but it is handled with passion and intensity. Acting is uniformly outstanding. Oscar-worthy performances by Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, and Julia Roberts lift it far above an average movie. Many supporting cast members contributed some of their finest performances. Though set 35 years ago, the movie has an immediacy that will affect any viewer. This is a must-see!

The choking eighties

While both a cast and performing are good, long story about AIDS epidemic dawn is boring very much.

Some hot stills entertain a bit but it's rather for future students of epoch passed than for broad auditorium.

On a certain level, as a car person, the film is also quietly satisfying. It's hard not to see these stories as "ours," the kind of thing normal people haven't cared about for years, and yet there they are, with real production value, being presented ...
