A frothy French farce, The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe is a classic madcap comedy about espionage, surveillance and mistaken identity. When Francois (Pierre Richard), an unsuspecting violinist, is misidentified as a superspy by national intelligence, outrageous antics ensue. As everyone (including Mireille Darc, playing a knock-out henchwoman) falls over each other in their misguided attempts to discover the tall blond man's secrets, his best friend complicates matters even further when he overhears a salacious recording of Francois with his wife. The whole merry-go-round comes crashing to a halt in one final showdown, pitting spy versus supposed spy with hilarious results. Elegantly filmed and accompanied by ...

Uproariously funny and worth every cent. Absolutely hysterical.

Absolutely hysterical! We had never heard of it until after we saw "The Dinner Game" and laughed so hard with that movie. Decided to go by the reviews (5 stars) and ordered this movie. We have never laughed this hard from start to finish on any movie before. Uproariously funny and worth every cent. I didn't realize that it was actually produced in the 1970's. The picture is very clear. I laughed so hard I started coughing and had to take a chest mucous relief tablet. That is why laughter is the best medicine - good for the soul. This ...

Yeah Right
Solid comedy

Very funny with characters and situations that are set up well; as well as a gorgeous actress. I thought I saw this in the early 80's (?) at the Naro in Norfolk, but it must have been "The Return of the Tall Blond Man...".

Funny movie

A very funny movie in French w/subtitles that I've seen several times over the years. Much better than the remake with Tom Hanks in English.

ALL-TIME FUNNIEST French Movie!

Here's the original French theatrical film -- with excellent English subtitles, great audio-video quality and everything -- and packed with boundless wit and hilarity! Exhibiting brilliant parodying of James Bond, and “North by Northwest,” and even plot and antics in common with “The Court Jester,” this gut-buster soars in many comedic modes. For instance, I think even Mozart would’ve guffawed at the uproarious happenings with a performance of his 40th Symphony -- which is conducted with exaggerated repose and dignity by the film’s own gifted director, Yves Robert -- all in the face of a whole bunch of calamities. I was also glad to see the ...

I've seen the Coen brothers' Burn After Reading treated with hostility by their fans, most likely because it's perceived as one of their more mainstream efforts, but there's something to be said for a film in which George Clooney spends half its time ...
